Final Exam

Important Notice: Special Arrangement for Making-up the Final Exam

Due to a schedule confliction of the fianl exam (to another undergarduate course), we will have a
special arrangement for making up the final exam for those who cannot take the final exam at the
regular time (5/8, 8:00-11:00am).  The make-up exam will have to be taken within a three days
period between 5/7 - 5/9.

Course Information:

Object of the course: Prerequisite: 01:640:115 (PRECALC COLLEGE MATH) or permission of department.
The topics to be covered in this course are principles and methods of statistics, including probability distributions, sampling, estimation, and hypothesis testing.
Meeting place and time: The classes will be held on Wednesday 11:30-12:50 AM Friday 1:10 - 2:30PM  in Milledoler Hall 100, College Avenue Campus. Textbook, references, and Course Syllabus: Mario F. Triola (2000). Elementary Statistics, Eighth Edition. Addison-Wesley. (textbook -- required)
Student's Solutions Manual Available in the bookstore.

Click here to see the course syllabus.

Exams, Grading Policy and Homework Assignments: There will be two mid-term exams (close book) and a final (close book). Each of the two mid-term exams accounts for 90 points, and the final accounts for 120 points (total 300 points). Your grades will be based upon the total number of points your earn, as follows (tentatively): 272 - 300 = A
260 - 271 = B+
234 - 259 = B
208 - 233 = C+
181 - 206 = C
136 - 180 = D
below 135 = F.
In addition, any cheating activity will result in a grade of F, and there will be no exception.

Make-up exam will be considered only in cases with a legitimate and verifiable excuse, which also needs to be endorsed by the student's assistant dean or advisor. The make-up exams will not be the same as the in class exam, and one should expect it to be significantly harder as well.

Homework problems will be assigned at the beginning/end of each class so that you may apply the concept learned. The homework assignments will be collected before the exams, but they will not be graded. Two copies of Solutions Manuals will be placed in the undergraduate reading room in the Alexander Library on the College Avenue campus.

Note that: Keeping up with the assignments is necessary for success in this course. Some of problems in the exams will be exactly the same or modified version of the homework problems.

Lectures and Reading Assignment: The lectures will focus on the core material of the course. Simpler topics will be left to the readings without comments. Students are responsible for all the assigned readings, whether or not these are covered explicitly in the lectures. Course Links:
