On Oct 16 (or before) you have to hand in a project proposal. This should be a typed 1-3 page report which outlines your project. Don't worry if this is not the route you end up taking, but you should have some idea about where you're heading. Make sure you give a description of the data, and the source - include some plots, if you intend to analyse data for your project. Make sure to give full references to the paper, brief description of your goals, if you intend to do a paper review for your project.
The class project can entail many different things. You can analyse a data set, of your own choice, write a report and prepare a class presentation. An alternative is to choose a recent paper (2001 or more recent) from a leading statistical journal (e.g. JASA), "review" this paper, perhaps run a few simulations to illustrate your understanding of the methods discussed, and prepare a class presentation. The presentation is key. The last lecture will be devoted to student presentations.
If you can't think of a project, or find a data set - come see me.
