Project

The project counts for 35% of your grade. Try to get started on a project as soon as possible, don't leave everything to the end of the semester. It is true that you will learn the tools to analysing time series data as we go along, but an important part of data analysis is data exploration, and familiarizing yourself with the data - something you can do already now. In the course outline I've listed projects from previous years. As you can see they are very diverse topics. Pick a topic you're interested in and have some fun with it.

You have to hand in a project proposal no later than March 20 (after spring break). This should be a typed 1-4 page report which outlines the analysis you anticipate completing. Don't worry if this is not the route you end up taking, but you should have some idea about where you're heading. Make sure you give a description of the data, and the source - include some plots.

I recommend you look for a data set with 250-500+ equally spaced observations, and for a data set that is approximately stationary. But if you have something very specific in mind, then you shouldn't let these recommendations deter you.
